We provide custom processing of high-quality optical components from single-crystal and polycrystalline Barium Fluoride (BaF₂).

BaF₂ offers excellent broadband transmission from the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) to the long-wave infrared (LWIR) and is highly resistant to high-energy radiation.

We can manufacture various standard and non-standard sizes, including 5mm, 30mm, 50mm, 100mm, and up to 200mm in diameter.

Material Properties

Transmission Range: 0.15 μm – 12.5 μm (from VUV to LWIR)
Refractive Index: ~1.48 at visible wavelengths; low refractive index enables high transmission even without AR coatings
Radiation Resistance: The most resistant optical fluoride to high-energy radiation (X-rays, gamma rays), making it ideal for harsh environments
Thermal Stability: Can operate in dry environments up to 800°C, though it is sensitive to moisture and thermal shock

Available Products and Sizes

Plano-Parallel Windows

Custom flat windows available in diameters from 5mm to 200mm and thicknesses from 0.12mm to 60mm. Standard stock sizes include 50mm × 3mm, 50.8mm × 5mm, and 100mm × 3mm. High-precision parallelism down to 10 arc seconds is achievable.

Spherical Lenses

Available in plano-convex, bi-convex, and plano-concave configurations with diameters ranging from 5mm to 150mm. These are commonly used in cryogenic imaging systems, FTIR spectroscopy, and laser optics.

Aspheric Lenses

Ultra-precision aspheric BaF₂ lenses manufactured using diamond turning followed by MRF (Magnetorheological Finishing) correction polishing. This process achieves surface figure errors (PV) below 100nm and surface roughness (Ra) under 0.01μm.

Custom Processing Capabilities

Advanced Polishing: CNC grinding and polishing, gel disc polishing, ring polishing, and MRF for ultra-high precision surfaces.
Surface Quality: Standard quality of 60-40 Scratch-Dig, with options up to 20-10. Surface irregularity can be controlled to λ/10 or better.
Coating Options: Uncoated, MgF₂, UV-AR, VIS-NIR, SWIR, YAG-BBAR, and other broadband anti-reflection coatings upon request.
